Malaga 2-3 Villarreal: Yellow Submarine Edge Ten-Man Hosts To Go Second In La Liga

Villarreal made it four wins on the bounce to go second in the Primera Liga with a deserved 3-2 win over Malaga at the Rosaleda.
The Yellow Submarine had to come from behind after Eliseu put the hosts in front with a well struck drive but two goals in three minutes from Santi Cazorla and Giuseppe Rossi put them in front and Cazorla added his second of the evening minutes after Jose Rondon's 30th minute equaliser.
Los Boquerones cause wasn't helped when Eliseu saw red shortly before the nfl jerseys
interval for a supposed headbutt on Carlos Marchena, although the veteran Spain international made the most of it.
It was the ideal start to the contest from Jesualdo Ferreira's men as Apono laid off a free kick to Eliseu and the Portuguese rifled his shot in off the crossbar from the edge of the box with an unstoppable effort.
That was Malaga's tenth goal of the season, making them top goal scorers in the Primera Liga, although they failed to add a win that would have propelled them above rivals Sevilla into to sixth in the table, as Villarreal soon sparked to life.
Midway through the opening period a corner to the visitors was cleared only to the edge of the box and Marcos Senna nodded to Cazorla who cut right to open up space to shoot before driving a low shot goalwards but his 20-yard effort only beat Ruben thanks to a wicked deflection off Apono.Cowboys jersey

Three minutes later they led as Rossi linked well with the in-form Nilmar who fed the American-born Italian into the penalty box and he tidily slipped it past the advancing 'keeper into the opposite corner.
Malaga responded and were level just on the half hour mark as Quincy whipped Chicago Bears jersey
an excellent cross in from the left wing allowing Rondon the simplest of tasks to net his third in three games with a close range header.
The entertaining, end-to-end football continued with the Yellow Submarine regaining the lead four minutes later with a sublime team goal. Cazorla opened space in midfield with a clever one-two with Rossi before another excellent interchange with Nilmar gave him space at the edge of the box to angle a low drive beyond the outstretched Malaga shot stopper to put the visitors back in command.
Just before the interval came the dismissal of Eliseu, which in many ways was reminiscent of Rivaldo's shameless play-acting at World Cup 2002 as Marchena fell as though he was shot after the slightest facial contact from the Portuguese which looked more like a continental greeting than a forceful headbutt.
THe second half, inevitably, was dominated by visitors with a man advantage but for all their dominance they failed to extend their lead. Rossi and Borja Valero who had proved so influential in the first 45 faded in the second as Malaga toiled to stay in the contest.
The league's top scorer Nilmar, took a great save out of Ruben midway through the second period but Cazorla was guilty on a couple of occasions of looking for his hat-trick with team-mates better placed to kill off the challenge of los Boquerones.
Malaga, to their credit, refused to lie down and had the ball in the net although Fernando's exquisite volley was correctly flagged offside but they contested until the closing stages prompting Juan Carlos Garrido to indroduce Gonzalo Rodriguez for valero to shore up his defence and they held on to move second behind leaders New Orleans Saints jersey
Valencia.
For the hosts, who have scored 11 goals this season, an improved defensive resolve will surely make them a team to watch this term having netted at least twice more than any other team thus far this season.

Batch helps Steelers stay unbeaten without Big Ben

By FRED GOODALL AP Sports Writer

TAMPA, Fla. (AP)—The Pittsburgh Steelers insist they aren’t surprised to be winning without Ben Roethlisberger(notes).

We knew we had the potential. We have some great talent on cheap nfl jerseys

this team,” receiver Hines Ward(notes) said after Sunday’s 38-13 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. “This team is not predicated on one player. That’s why this is the ultimate team sport.”

Colts jersey

Three-quarters of the way through Roethlisberger’s four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy, the Steelers are 3-0 for the first time since 2007.

Each week, they’ve found a different way to win, with 35-year-old backup Charlie Batch(notes) taking advantage of his opportunity to shine against the Bucs.

Batch, at one point No. 4 on the depth chart, threw for 186 yards and two touchdowns in his first start in nearly three years. Rashard Mendenhall(notes) keyed a strong ground game with 143 yards on 19 carries, and Pittsburgh’s defense forced two more turnovers, had four sacks and scored on Brett Keisel’s(notes) 79-yard interception return.

The Steelers will try to go to 4-0 at home next week against Baltimore.

The standard for expectation doesn’t change for us,” Mendenhall said. “Nobody’s going to care if you lose a game because somebody’s not here or somebody’s hurt. Those kind of things happen.”

Batch threw TD passes of 46 and 41 yards to Mike Wallace(notes), who had three receptions for 100 yards. The Steelers were in such control that he only attempted three passes after building a 28-6 halftime lead.

With Dennis Dixon(notes) starting the previous two games, Pittsburgh scored one offensive touchdown. Batch led TD drives on the Steelers’ last four possessions of the opening half.

We felt offensively that we were letting this team down. We were winning in other phases - special teams and defensively,” said Batch, who completed 12 of 17 passes and was intercepted twice. “But we weren’t holding up our end.”

Batch’s teammates said they never doubted he could do the job.

Charlie knows this offense better than anybody,” Ward said. “He’s a good, Saints jersey

solid quarterback.”

Tampa Bay’s Aqib Talib(notes) intercepted Batch’s first pass of the day to set up a 40-yard field goal, but Bucs fans - seemingly lost in the sea of gold-clad Steeler supporters who gave Raymond James Stadium the look and feel of Heinz Field - had little to cheer about the rest of the way.

Josh Freeman(notes) led one long drive for Tampa Bay (2-1), however the nearly 9-minute drive only produced a second-quarter field goal. The Buccaneers finished with 303 yards total offense, but couldn’t get into the end zone until backup quarterback Josh Johnson(notes) got them there in the closing minutes.

Freeman was 20 of 31 for 184 yards and one interception before being removed with the Steelers up by 32 points in the fourth quarter. Rookie LeGarrette Blount(notes) scored Tampa Bay’s lone touchdown on a 1-yard run - the first Pittsburgh’s defense has allowed on the ground this season.

That was a good team, and I think we learned a lot from it,” Freeman said. “They dominated us on the scoreboard, but at the same time I feel like our team’s mentality walking away is that we could’ve played with those guys. We just didn’t take advantage of the opportunities that were presented.”

Pittsburgh threw a league-low 43 passes in its first two games, beating Atlanta and Tennessee primarily by running the ball and playing ballhawking defense. The Steelers forced seven turnovers against the Titans and limited Chris Johnson to 34 yards rushing on 16 attempts, ending his streak of 12 consecutive 100-yard games.

Batch mixed the pass with the run to keep the Bucs on their heels, even reverting to the San Diego Chargers jersey

early days of his 13-year career when he scrambled up the middle for 24 yards on third-and-6 to prolong a 67-yard drive that Mendenhall capped with a 3-yard TD run for a 14-6 lead.

He played like a veteran. … He didn’t blink,” Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said. “He’s been a consummate professional and team player, and good things usually happen for those kind of people.”

Batch doesn’t have any illusions about where he’s headed once Roethlisberger returns, yet he thought he sent a clear message to the rest of the team.

I felt I kind of made my case to say that if you need me,” Batch said, “I’m there for you.”

Thursday's Notebook Notes: Jenkins Limited, But Improving

IRVING, Texas - Cornerback Mike Jenkins is listed as having just limited participation in Thursday's practice. But it definitely doesn't sound as if the Cowboys' starting right cornerback will be anywhere but the starting lineup come Sunday's game in Houston.

Head coach Wade Phillips said Jenkins was only limited in football jersey

that he rotated out of a few plays.

"When he was in there, he went full speed," Phillips said of Jenkins, who suffered a bruised knee late in the Chicago game on Sunday. Jenkins had an MRI on Monday, which revealed just a bruise and no structural damage.

And with only two other corners on the 53-man roster in Terence Newman and Orlando Scandisk, certainly the Cowboys must have some contingency plans in the works.

Rookie safety Awash Owusu-Ansah has cornerback experience in college at Indiana, Pa. He's probably the likely backup in the slot if anything happened to Scandisk. The Cowboys might also consider using starting free safety Alan Ball, in case of an injury to another outside corner.

And it doesn't sound like the Cowboys have ruled out making a move from the practice squad. Rookie Bryan McCann, who was added this week after he was cut by the Ravens, could be signed to the team, meaning the Cowboys would have to release a player from the current 53-man roster.

Staying Ready

Just like cornerback Bryan McCann is ready for a possible call-up to the roster, the same goes for tight end Scott Chandler, who has actually practiced more on special teams this week. That is typically a good indicator of a player being active; however Chandler isn't even on the 53-man roster.

"They haven't said anything yet," Chandler said. "I don't really know what they're Minnesota Vikings jersey

going to do, but I'll be ready."

Chandler spent last year on the Cowboys' practice squad before he was claimed by the Giants. He spent all off-season with the Giants in 2010 before being released at the end of the preseason. Chandler quickly re-signed with the Cowboys, who also have tight end Martin Rucker on the practice squad.

Steelers jersey

The Cowboys are looking for more blocking help in goal-line and short-yardage situations. Last week, defensive end Marcus Spears played in the backfield. Coach Wade Phillips said the Cowboys might try to use another offensive tackle, which would be Alex Barron, if they don't add another tight end to the roster.

Ware's Next Challenge

Knowing he'd see the Texans again in September, Demarks Ware had already watched offensive tackle Rashid Butler in preseason before he knew Butler would start Sunday in place of suspended Duane Brown.

For Ware and fellow outside linebacker Anthony Spencer, Butler still presents a challenge even though he's starting his first NFL game.

"He's a really quick, agile guy, but there're always ways to try to figure out and beat a guy," Ware said. "I've got to do a little more studying this week."

Cast Away

Rookie nose tackle Josh Brent has filled in for Jay Ratliff (personal reasons) in practice the last two days and should spell Ratliff again Sunday when the Pro Bowl starter needs a break. Brent's job should be easier now that the cast has been removed from his left hand, which he broke July 25 during training camp practice in Indianapolis Colts jersey

San Antonio.

Brent said he played without the cast last Sunday against the Bears and has played roughly 20 plays in the first two games. Throughout preseason, he said the cast affected his technique and leverage for shedding blocks.

Throwing into coverage again; as criticism of Bears continues, Love will dust off his only trick:

Indianapolis Colts jersey
Love Smith's well-developed siege mentality couldn't have had a better week. Critics shot so many arrows into the Bears' boarded-up psyche that his players surely got the message:WQZSUS4Y5XPA
It's them against the world.
It started Sunday, when Smith caught heavy criticism for not kicking a field goal on fourth down from inside the Detroit Lions' 1-yard line with his team trailing by a point.
The Bears beat the Lions, but only because of nfl jerseys
a controversial rule that caused a national storm. In other words, they didn't get the credit they thought they deserved.
After the game, Lance Briggs lashed out at unnamed critics who apparently had suggested that he and fellow linebacker Brian Ulcer were old and slow.
On Tuesday, photographs emerged of quarterback Jay Cutler walking in New York with his girlfriend, a reality-TV personality. It launched talk-show debate about whether he should be jetting around the country during the season, even on his day off.
On Wednesday, NFL Network analyst and former All-Pro defensive tackle Warren Sapp ripped Bears defensive tackle Tommie Harris for not playing his position correctly.
That same day, Cutler told reporters the best way for wide receiver Devin Hester to catch some passes would be to actually, you know, get open. The media had a field day analyzing the quote for cracks in the Cutler-Hester relationship.
On Thursday, running back Matt Forte opened up his Sun-Times and read the same news he had given to his fiancée only two days before -- that his ex-girlfriend was going to have a baby in November and that he was the father. Forte now has an ex-fiancée, according to the report.
The only thing missing on Planet Bears was a Mexican TV reporter in shrink-wrap jeans tormenting Love’s players.
I think we all know where this is going, courtesy of Smith: Media bad. Very, very bad.
He'll trot out his favorite motivational tool, the one that features the good guys on one side and the bad guys on the other.
Without that tool, without the media serving as a cause for him, it'd Pittsburgh Steelers jersey
be impossible to know he was coaching the Bears. Without that tool, he'd be one of those living-statue mimes.
If we media members provide that much motivation for the Bears, will we get a playoff share, should the unthinkable happen this season? Some of us have bills to pay.
LONE EMOTIONAL BUTTON
Smith's previous six years in Chicago have taught us that the concept of an evil media is the only thing that brings out the head coach in him. It's the only thing that ever has induced outward emotion in the man. Remember when a magazine named Ulcer the most overrated player in the NFL? By Smith's reaction, you would have thought somebody had just put a bullet in each of Ulcer’s thighs.
And when most media ''experts'' picked the Indianapolis Colts to beat the Bears in the Super Bowl after the 2006 season, Love mentioned the offending parties to his players to fire them up.
So here the Bears are, getting ready for their big game in Dallas on Sunday, and you have to believe that if Smith circled his 53 wagons any more tightly, he'd have his own subdivision.
Making it an us-vs.-them proposition is so amateurish, so high-schools, it's almost comical. Of all the motivational buttons to be pushed, this is the one Smith chooses year after year? At the professional level? Really?
The relationship between the Bears and the media is a long-distance one. The team prefers that contact be minimal and that questions be few and far between. There's a disdain there, a haughtiness you won't find in many other places.
What Smith never has understood is that the media are the conduit to the fans. The other day, when he uttered the words ''Football 101'' to a reporter who had the temerity to ask why he hadn't given Bears cornerback Zack Bowman any help on Lions star receiver Calvin Johnson, he was insulting the Bears' faithful, too.
THE GAP WIDENS
It's only one of the reasons there's such a disconnect between fans and Smith. But it's a big one. If he had ever made an effort to be cordial, informative or -- heavens! -- interesting, his 23-25 record the previous three seasons might not be as big an issue as it is now. He might have been extended the benefit of the doubt.
If I were a psychologist, I'd say Smith's condescending attitude Minnesota Vikings jersey
stems from insecurity. But what do I know? I'm just a newspaper critter who is still trying to get through Football 101.
If the Bears beat the Cowboys on Sunday, they very well could reach critical mass on the insufferable meter. That would make them 2-0. Is it worth it, Bears fans?

24 sep 10 We have the challenge of facing one of our own, if you will, one of my favorites of all time in Keith

The Titans are 4-0 against the Giants since the franchise moved to Tennessee, and Young will lead them into the New Meadowlands Stadium on Sunday as he looks to bounce back from a rough performance.
Coach Jeff Fisher replaced a mistake-prone Young with former Giant Kerry Collins(notes) in the fourth quarter of a 19-11 loss to Pittsburgh last Sunday. Collins guided the Titans (1-1) to their lone touchdown after Young had two interceptions and a fumble as part of his team’s seven turnovers.
Fisher reiterated this week that Young is still the starter.
“I’m not disappointed in him or his development, his path or football jerseys
anything like that,” Fisher said. “It’s a decision I made to try to win the ballgame.”
Young no doubt has fond memories of his lone game against the Giants (1-1) four years ago as a rookie. He threw for 249 yards and two touchdowns, and ran for 69 yards and another score in bringing Tennessee back from a 21-0 deficit after three quarters for a 24-21 victory.
The 249 yards are the fourth-highest total of his career.
While Giants coach Tom Coughlin was asked about that game this week, the questions he fielded had more to do with problems facing his own team in the wake of a 38-14 loss at Indianapolis last Sunday. Safety Antrel Rolle(notes) was critical of the team’s leadership in a radio interview, and has not backed off the comments although he acknowledged Wednesday that he should have voiced his concerns with Coughlin before airing them.
The two have spoken, and believe it’s a non-issue at this point.
“Antrel and I had a conversation …” Coughlin said. “I think that, although the conversation remains private, it was a good conversation and I think he understands better the circumstance.”
Coughlin also met with Brandon Jacobs(notes), who was fined $10,000 by the NFL for tossing his helmet into the stands during Sunday’s game. Jacobs has struggled this year, gaining 52 yards on 16 carries.
Jacobs apologized once again for throwing his helmet, and did the same to the New York media and his teammates Wednesday.
“I’ve been in a state of mind where I hated all you guys, and I apologize to Bears jersey
each and every one of you for acting the way I’ve been acting the last month or so,” he said. “Secondly, I want to apologize to my teammates for putting them in a position to answer these questions about me when they should be focusing on winning games.”
Coughlin has plenty of familiarity with Fisher, as their 17 meetings are the most among active coaches. Fisher holds a 10-7 lead, with most of the games coming during their days as division rivals when Coughlin coached Jacksonville.
There will also be familiarity for the Giants with the Titans, as linebacker Keith Bulluck(notes) spent his first 10 seasons with Tennessee before joining New York.
“We have the challenge of facing one of our own, if you will, one of my favorites of all time in Keith,” said Fisher, whose team has won nine straight against NFC opponents. “That’s going to be a huge challenge because he does know; he knows our defense, he knows our offense and so that in itself will be a challenge.”
Bulluck apparently doesn’t consider his former team among his favorites.
“I guess I am happier (the Giants) just seeing me from afar gave me the shot to come and compete for a spot on their football team and a team I was with a decade didn’t even think to holler at me,” he said.Pittsburgh Steelers jersey

The linebacker should play a key role in trying to help contain Chris Johnson, who was limited to 34 rushing yards last week against the Steelers to end a string of 12 straight games with at least 100. He could find more room to run against New York, which allowed Indianapolis to gain 160 yards on the ground.
Giants tight end Kevin Boss(notes) returned to practice Wednesday after missing the last game with a concussion. His absence as a blocker and poor play by the offensive line was a factor in Eli Manning(notes) getting sacked four times by the Colts, two of which caused New York to lose a pair of Saints jersey
fumbles that led to touchdowns.
“I think we have done things well and made corrections,” Manning said. “We’ve been responsible to each other and committed, and we have to go out there on Sundays and play better football.”

Italy Coach Cesare Prandelli: Milan, Inter & Juventus Are Favourites For The Scudetto

Minnesota Vikings jersey
Italy coach Cesare Prandelli believes Juventus and Milan will enjoy a broadly harmonious run in the Scudetto race, but he has picked Inter as one of the favourites.
"I think for me there are three favourites. Milan, nfl jersey
Juventus and Inter," he told Sky Sport Italia.
"Juventus are a team that are always there to Saints jersey
fight for the Scudetto. Luigi Del Neri is working to find a precise identity and he will in quick time."
Inter remain top dogs for the Champions League though.
"I think Inter can repeat their success because they are still hungry for San Diego Chargers jersey
success and they have the will to do it."

Santi Cazorla Pleased With Villarreal's 'Confidence-Boosting' Win Over Levante

Minnesota Vikings jersey
Villarreal midfielder Santi Cazorla has been discussing the club’s away victory over Levante which made it two La Liga wins in a row, and said that the team are building confidence with every good result.
The Yellow Submarines have bounced back from their opening-day nfl throwback jerseys
disappointment in San Sebastian versus Real Sociedad to record back-to-back league triumphs, but Cazorla admitted that this win was crucial after their Europa League defeat in midweek.
Dinamo Zagreb defeated Juan Carlos Garrido’s side 2-0, but the Spanish international midfielder hopes that a return to form in La Liga can provide a sufficient boost in self-belief.
He told journalists yesterday: “The most important thing now is to win and gain confidence. We played well in the first half, but it is true that in the second half the team were a little behind.
“It is also true that with a two-goal led we need to be calmer. We lost control and Levante made us suffer, but the important thing was to win and we did. It was a boost of confidence that was necessary.”
Cazorla now hopes to keep their league run going versus Deportivo at El Madrigal on Thursday evening, adding: “Now we are thinking about the next game and the importance of winning points at home. Fortunately, we have players like Nilmar and [Giuseppe] Rossi who are good in front of goal.”
UEFA president Michel Platini underlined the importance of Bills jersey
national team football at the opening of the ninth UEFA conference for European National Team Coaches in Madrid on Monday.
"National teams have always been the supreme expression of national football since 150 years ago when England first played Scotland. But today we face a match calendar that is increasingly crowded and for which the ideal solution has not been found," Platini was quoted as saying by reporters.
"Here in Madrid I would like to set the priorities straight – defending national teams is top of our list at UEFA.
"I can empathise with the difficulties and pressures national team trainers face, but their work is a matter of honour and pride and they have the best possible job in the world.
"I am a former national team player and there is no bigger honour for any player than to wear the jersey of the national team."
Platini also took the time to praise the national teams of 49ers jersey
Spain, Netherlands and Germany for their performances at the 2010 World Cup.
"You have made your UEFA president very proud to have three European teams finishing top at the World Cup."

Dimitar Berbatov And The Stories Behind Some Of The Other Great Hat-Tricks In English Football

Minnesota Vikings jersey
Dimitar Berbatov's scintillating hat-trick for Manchester United against Liverpool on Sunday was significant, if not immense, for all sorts of reasons. And it takes its place in the pantheon of outstanding trebles in English football history - hat-tricks whose impact went beyond the sum of the three strikes because of the context in which they were scored.
Some contributed to vital victories or rescued seeming lost causes, others set remarkable records, yet others simply took the breath away with their rapidity, quality, audacity and improbability…
Goal.com UK recalls 10 of the greatest (plus some others worthy of football jerseys
honourable mentions). But we recoignise that such a list is unavoidably subjective, so invite readers to nominate other hat-tricks they feel deserve to be in the top 10 (and why) by using the comments box b closed in on the 1927-28 First Division title, he needed nine goals from the last three games to beat the record of 59 goals in a season set by George Camsell one year earlier. He scored two against Aston Villa, then four at Burnley, as Everton clinched the title before the final match, at home to Arsenal.
But 21-year-old Dixie still needed three to set a new record for most League goals in a single season. With a trademark header and a penalty, he equalled Camsell's record. Then with eight minutes of the campaign remaining, he soared to complete his hat-trick with an emphatic header, breaking the record outright with his 60th league goal of the season. It was his most memorable of 37 career hat-tricks.
World Cup for the country. Controversy still rages about the veracity of Hurst's second - the shot that bounced down off the underside of the bar in extra-time - but the goal stood, and the West Ham striker removed all argument about the result by hammering home his third and England's fourth so late that some people were already on the pitch, thinking it was all over.
strong defensive solidity but were blown away by the precocious Robbie Fowler, who destroyed them with a dazzling three goals in four minutes and 33 seconds.
The Reds won 3-0 to maintain a 100 per cent start to their season, and Chargers jersey
Fowler's treble remains the fastest in Premier League history.
Spurs were trailing 2-0 to the Saints at The Dell in an FA Cup fifth round replay when manager Gerry Francis sent on substitute Rosenthal in the 44th minute with the instruction to "take the initiative".
The Israeli transformed the match, galvanising Tottenham's hitherto toothless attack. He fired home two goals to force extra-time, then completed his hat-trick during the additional half-hour to give Spurs the lead.
Southampton were so shell-shocked that Teddy Sheringham, Nick Barmby and Darren Anderton were able to add the icing to Rosenthal's cake in a 6-2 win.
performances the Toon Army had ever seen. Against their illustrious Catalan opponents, they touched heights few had believed they were capable of, with maverick Colombian Tino Asprilla the catalyst.
He converted a penalty before adding two fine headers — a result of unfathomably high leaps into the air — from the outstanding Keith Gillespie to send Geordies into dreamland.
Barcelona came back late in the game to make it 3-2, but the night belonged to Asprilla and his three trademark somersault celebrations.
Arsenal were two down against Gianluca Vialli's highly-fancied Chelsea with a quarter-of-an-hour remaining at Stamford Bridge. The Blues hadn't conceded a goal at home all season, but Nigerian forward Kanu struck what most imagined was a consolation effort in the 75th minutes.
Nine minutes later he'd netted an improbable equaliser. Then in injury time, he Bears jersey
pounced on a mistake by Albert Ferrer to seize possession, side-stepped onrushing goalie Ed de Goey and, despite the presence of Frank Leboeuf and Marcel Desailly on the goal-line, chipped both from what seemed an impossibly acute angle to make it 3-2 to the vistors.

NFL full of QB quandaries heading into Week 3

Dallas Cowboys jersey
Brett Favre had his worst day as a Viking, and a Minnesota team that thought it was set at quarterback is 0-2.
At least the Vikings are certain who their starter is.
After a Sunday full of nfl jersey injuries and interceptions, seemingly half the league heads into Week 3 with a quarterback quandary.
The Titans' Vince Young was pulled after his third turnover against Pittsburgh. The Steelers needed all those takeaways from their defense because they're down to their fourth-string quarterback.
Michael Vick won the battle of backups in the Eagles' victory over the Lions, playing so well that now Philadelphia must answer questions about whether he should remain the starter when Kevin Kolb returns.
The Panthers' Matt Moore and the Raiders' Jason Campbell also got yanked as those two teams quickly soured on their new starters.
At this rate, maybe we'll see a coach suiting up at quarterback for somebody.
''I know it won't be me,'' the Steelers' Mike Tomlin said of who will start for Pittsburgh at Tampa Bay. ''I'm not good enough.''
That's all he knows. Ben Roethlisberger is suspended for two more games. Byron Leftwich, who was supposed to fill in, is out with a knee injury and was even released to make room for another defensive lineman, though he is expected to be re-signed Monday.
Then Dennis Dixon hurt his left knee early in Sunday's game and didn't return.
Charlie Batch took over and went 5-of-11 for 25 yards - and the Steelers still won thanks to their defense and special teams despite not scoring an offensive touchdown. Until Dixon undergoes some tests, the identity of their starter next Sunday is a mystery.
Tennessee coach Jeff Fisher insisted there's no question about his quarterback situation. He said after the 19-11 loss that Young will start next week against the New York Giants.
The move didn't work Sunday as backup Kerry Collins had two turnovers of his own.
''I wasn't concerned honestly about his feelings at that point,'' Fisher said of Young. ''I was trying to win the football game. And he's our starting quarterback, and he will start this week, OK? So you know it's not an easy thing to do to anybody. But he is going to come back, start this week and play well.''
Eagles coach Andy Reid is also adamant that Kolb is his starter, no matter how many dazzling plays VCowboys jersey
ick racks up. With Kolb out with a concussion, Vick made his first start at quarterback since 2006 and went 21 of 34 for 284 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran for 37 yards - and frequently avoided losing yardage with his fancy footwork.
''We've got more plays for him than we did a year ago, so he'll be on the field,'' Reid said of Vick, who played sparingly last season. ''It isn't going to be five or six plays this year.''
The Eagles beat Detroit and backup quarterback Shaun Hill 35-32. With Matthew Stafford out with a right shoulder injury, Hill went 25 of 45 for 335 yards with two TDs and two interceptions.
Panthers coach John Fox isn't making any assurances about his QB situation. Moore, anointed the starter after Carolina jettisoned Jake Delhomme and all his turnovers in the offseason, has six giveaways in two games after committing two more Sunday. He was benched for rookie Jimmy Clausen in the fourth quarter of a 20-7 loss to Tampa Bay.
Clausen was 7 of 13 for 59 yards with an interception.
Fox said it's ''way too early'' to say who will start at quarterback next week against Cincinnati.
''Matt has not been benched by any stretch,'' Fox said. ''We'll go with whoever gives us the best chance to win next week and that will take some time.''
New quarterbacks in Oakland and Arizona aren't doing much better. The Raiders pulled Campbell after an ineffective first half against the Rams. Campbell was 8 for 15 for 87 yards and an interception before being replaced by Bruce Gradkowski. He was acquired from Washington during the offseason but lasted all of six quarters as the starter.
''I was surprised,'' Campbell said. ''We were down 7-3. We had been moving the ball. We just stalled when we got to the red zone. But at the same time, it was a decision that they made.''
Gradkowski rallied Oakland to three scoring drives and a 16-14 win, and coach Tom Cable said he hadn't made any decisions about who will start next week at Arizona.
The Raiders will be facing an opponent with its own shakiness at quarterback. Derek Anderson earned the Cardinals' starting job in the preseason, resulting in Matt Leinart's release. In Sunday's 41-7 loss to the Falcons, he was 17-of-31 for 161 yards and two interceptions.
Two guys who aren't in danger of losing their jobs still had miserable days. The Jaguars' David Garrard and the Ravens' Joe Flacco each threw four interceptions in losses.
Compared with all that, the Vikings' quarterback scenario looks downright rosy. Even if Pittsburgh Steelers jersey
the 40-year-old Favre had three interceptions and no touchdowns in a 14-10 loss to Miami.
After throwing two interceptions at the Metrodome all of last season, Favre accounted for four turnovers in the 2010 home opener.
''It's just hard to repeat those type of numbers and statistics and it's hard to repeat wins,'' Favre said.

Peyton, Colts hold 31-7 lead over Giants

Dallas Cowboys jersey

The Indianapolis Colts are still getting the better of Peyton Manning's younger brother.
After Eli Manning finally got the Giants on nfl throwback jerseys
the scoreboard with a 54-yard TD pass to Mario Manningham, the Colts recovered Eli's second fumble in the end zone, giving Indy a 31-7 lead over New York after three quarters Sunday night.
It was a miserable night for Eli, who was 8 of 16 for 101 yards with one interception. He also was sacked twice and lost two fumbles. The second fumble came when Pro Bowl defensive end Dwight Freeney knocked the ball loose near the Giants' goal line. It then rolled into the end zone where Fili Moala recovered it.
Meanwhile, the older brother was especially efficient in Manning Bowl II.
He threw two first-half TD passes, including a 50-yarder to Dallas Clark, and led the Colts on four scoring drives in the first two quarters as he got plenty of time to work. It was a major improvement over the season opener when Manning hit the ground 13 times.
Peyton was aided in large part by a suddenly strong ground game. Joseph Addai and Donald Brown ran 28 times for 144 yards through three quarters. Addai's 88 yards rushing were his most in any game since he had 105 against Houston on Nov. 16, 2008.
But the Giants' offensive ineptitude was the far bigger problem for New York.
The Giants had only five first downs in the first half, when Eli went 3 of 8 for 17 yards, and one of those came off a pass-interference penalty.
Things got so bad that at one point during the third quarter a frustrated Brandon Jacobs started to throw his helmet down when it slipped and unintentionally went into the stands. Security personnel had to retrieve the helmet, and Jacobs appeared to be explaining to coach Tom Coughlin what happened.
And they still had to contend with Peyton on the field.
After Peyton hooked up with Clark for their 43rd career TD connection - tying the second most in league history among quarterback and tight ends - Eli tried to outdo his older brother.
Bad choice.
Eli's 57-yard throw was deflected by safety Antoine Bethea, went through the hands of Vikings jersey
Steve Smith and was intercepted by Jerraud Powers at the Indy 23. Peyton then took the Colts 42 yards in eight plays to set up Adam Vinatieri for a 38-yard field goal with 5 minutes left in the half.
Peyton was just warming up. After Robert Mathis stripped the ball on a sack, and Eric Foster recovered, Peyton found Austin Collie for a 3-yard TD pass with 9 seconds left in the half.
Peyton was 17 of 23 for 199 yards with two TDs through three quarters, and Eli certainly didn't expect the game to be this lopsided.
''It's my seventh year in this offense now so, it's been a great week,'' he told NBC before kickoff. ''It's been less stressful than the first time when you had five months of press dealing before this game instead of one week. It's been a little bit more enjoyable for Peyton and I.''
This is the second time the Super Bowl-winning brothers have faced one another during their NFL careers. Peyton won the first matchup 26-21 in 2006, the same season he won the Super Bowl. The brothers shook hands twice at midfield, before and after the coin toss, and exchanged greetings as they arrived on time for the game - unlike the NBC commercial in which Peyton wound up locked in a closet.
Their parents, Archie and Olivia, were expected to watch from a box at Lucas Oil Stadium. The oldest Manning brother, Cooper, did not attend.
Indy played without receiver Anthony Gonzalez (sprained ankle), safety Bob Sanders (torn biceps muscle) and starting linebacker Clint Session (hamstring).
New York also was short-handed. Starting tackle Will Beatty (broken foot), tight end Kevin Boss (concussion) and special teams Chase Blackburn (right knee) were all deactivated for the game.
Indy is 6-1 in its past seven home openers and is trying to avoid its first 0-2 start Colts jersey
since 1998 - Peyton's rookie season.
Clark, Reggie Wayne and Peyton Manning were all looking for milestone achievements, too. Manning and Wayne needed to hook up for one TD pass to tie John Unitas and Raymond Berry (63) for the second-highest scoring combination in franchise history. The four-time league MVP and Marvin Harrison hold the NFL record with 112 TD passes.
Manning and Clark are now tied with Sonny Jurgensen and Jerry Smith (43) for second in league history. Only New England's Drew Bledsoe and Ben Coates, who had 45, have more.

Sanchez, Jets beat Patriots

Dallas Cowboys jersey
Call the second game of the New York Jets' reality season ''Hard to Believe.''
Because just when it looked as though a bad week on and off the field would taint the Jets' season, along came Tom Brady and the New England Patriots.
But, looking more like Brady than even the record-breaking quarterback himself, Mark Sanchez threw a career-high three touchdown passes as the Jets overcame the loss of Darrelle Revis to beat their AFC East rivals 28-14 on football jerseys
Sunday.
''We're back,'' Ryan said, ''to being who we think we are.''
Six days after an awful outing in a season-opening loss to Baltimore last Monday night, Sanchez looked in charge of a suddenly charged-up offense.
''It's just tough when you lose that first game,'' Sanchez said. ''It feels like you're 0-10. This game couldn't come soon enough.''
The second-year quarterback completed a career-high 21 passes on 30 attempts for 220 yards and connected with Braylon Edwards, Jerricho Cotchery and Dustin Keller for scores.
''We did a lot of talking,'' running back LaDainian Tomlinson said of the team that starred in HBO's ''Hard Knocks'' this summer. ''But at some point, you've got to prove it. That's what it was about today.''
The victory over the Patriots (1-1) ended a tumultuous week for the Jets (1-1), who were investigated by the NFL for the treatment of a female reporter at practice last weekend. Commissioner Roger Goodell ruled that the Jets' conduct was unprofessional but there was no sexual harassment, and owner Woody Johnson apologized to TV Azteca reporter Ines Sainz.
If the Jets were distracted, they certainly didn't show it in this one.
''This was a huge game for us,'' Ryan said.
They may have some more concerns now, however. Revis, New York's All-Pro cornerback, left in the second quarter after Randy Moss made a jaw-dropping, one-handed 34-yard touchdown catch. Revis immediately grabbed his left leg, his hamstring tightening on him after being limited by it all week. He said it wasn't a pull or a tear, but wasn't sure how long he might be sidelined.
Cotchery caught a 2-yard touchdown pass from Sanchez with 38 seconds left in the third quarter, and Edwards caught the 2-point conversion toss to give the Jets their first lead of the game at 21-14.
Tomlinson had a pretty 31-yard run, showing plenty of zip, to put the Jets at the Patriots 4 and Buffalo Bills jersey
set up the score.
Helped by two pass interference calls on Darius Butler, the Jets took a 28-14 lead on Keller's 1-yard catch with 6:09 remaining.
With Brady trying to muster a comeback against his rivals, Jason Taylor sacked him and knocked the ball out of his hands with just over 4 minutes left and Bryan Thomas recovered.
''We couldn't do anything in the second half,'' Brady said. ''We had a hard time gaining yards. We didn't do anything on third down, we couldn't gain anything on first or second down. We couldn't run it. We couldn't throw it.
''We just (stunk). That's what it comes down to.''
The Jets then ran the ball out to seal the victory.
Brady finished 20 for 36 for 248 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions.
''It's going to be a long week, I can promise you that,'' Brady said. ''We've got to get better in a lot of areas.''
Moss, who took exception to Revis calling him a ''slouch'' in January, made an incredible catch in front of the cornerback to become the fourth NFL player to reach 150 career touchdowns.
After a 46-yard completion to Aaron Hernandez on third-and-10, Brady found Moss, who reached up and snagged the pass over his shoulder with his right hand. The touchdown - with Revis trailing behind him - made it 14-7 with 53 seconds left in the half.
''Some things you just can't answer,'' Moss said. ''It just seemed like we fell apart in the second half.''
The Jets had tied it at 7 on a 10-yard touchdown catch by Edwards, who leaped above Butler on a fade route into the end zone and held onto the ball as the two dropped to the turf.
Edwards was called for taunting after he danced in front of Butler, but the Jets were just happy to get into the end zone. Nick Folk kicked a 49-yard field goal as time expired in the first half to make it 14-10.
After Antonio Cromartie picked off Brady's long pass to Moss at the 3-yard line, Sanchez led a solid 10-play scoring drive that was capped by Folk's 36-yard field goal that made it 14-13 with 4:53 remaining in the third quarter.
Wes Welker, who caught 15 passes in the Patriots' last game against the Jets, had a 6-yard touchdown catch to give New England a 7-0 lead 1:43 into the second quarter. The score capped a 15-play drive that could've been stopped a lot earlier if not for a foolish unnecessary roughness penalty by Eric Smith.
''The Jets handled adversity the right way and we handled it the wrong way.'' Moss said. ''This Steelers jersey
one hurts. We had a lot of expectations coming into this game.''
NOTES: Welker finished with six catches for 38 yards, while Moss was held to two catches. ... Keller had seven catches for a career-high 115 yards. ... The Patriots finished with only 52 yards rushing. ... Taylor injured his left arm on the sack of Brady, and wasn't sure how serious it was.

Ligue 1 Preview: Girondins de Bordeaux – Olympique Lyonnais

Dallas Cowboys jersey
Only a few months ago, Girondins de Bordeaux against Olympique Lyonnais would have been billed as a top of the table clash, but five matches into the new season both sides are languishing deep in the lower half of the table, desperately seeking inspiration for better.
Bordeaux’s slump doesn’t really come as a great surprise, though the football jerseys
fact it’s been so deep is somewhat of a shock. Under Jean Tigana, stripped of key players last term such as Marouane Chamakh and Yoann Gourcuff, who controversially fled to Lyon, les Marine et Blanc have picked up just one league victory.
Last weekend, the 2008-09 champions sunk to 18th in the table, a position that would suggest a battle against the drop, and their coach didn’t deny that’s exactly how his side played as they turned in a simply dreadful showing against Nice to lose 2-1 on the Cote d’Azur.
“We just didn’t play and in the first half we were catastrophic before improving after that and creating chances,” Tigana scorched to the press, according to Ligue 1’s official website. “It’s not good enough. We’ve got a lot of work to do and the players need to ask hard questions of themselves. From January to the present day Bordeaux’s form has been relegation form.”
Les Girondins have been unable to replace last season’s aces. Though Anthony Modeste has contributed two goals in four games, he is too raw to be a top class centre forward, while Fahid Ben Khalfallah has been hugely disappointing to date. But it’s not just Bordeaux’s new boys; their established first team picks must raise their game too, as Tigana intimated last Sunday.
No Trigger Required
Lyon are little better off than les Girondins in terms of league position. Presently les Gones are stationed 16th with just five points from their five matches, though at least Claude Puel can point to an improving trend in performance level as reason for optimism.
Last Saturday his men played reasonably well to take a 1-1 home draw with Valenciennes, though the full-time score was ultimately a disappointment, particularly after taking the lead. But the midweek success over Schalke in the Champions League may be the catalyst OL need for their season to Pittsburgh Steelers jersey
finally take off.
“We don’t really need anything in particular to trigger our season,” Puel argued to the media, according to the LFP’s official website. “It was like the match against Valenciennes - these two matches represent some very solid groundwork.
“We’ve seen that we have a lot of technical potential. We were well balanced [against Schalke]. We need to fine-tune the understanding among the players in the final 25 metres but I think our last two matches have shown many promising signs in terms of our progress.”
Yoann Gourcuff has proven to be something of a catalyst in OL’s improvement, but his return to the Stade Chaban-Delmas will spark high feelings on Sunday due to the manner and timing in which he declared his desire to leave.
“It's a bit special to play against my former club,” he told Football365. “I spent two wonderful years there; it went very well with Laurent Blanc. We managed some good things in the league and Champions League; there was a lot of satisfaction.
“I have never cheated there. Today, Bordeaux is over. I think the fans will not like me and could whistle, but that’s football.”
Gourcuff and Lyon have much to prove.
Jean Tigana has a number of injury worries approaching this fixture. Goalkeepers Ulrich Rame and Abdoulaye Keita continue to miss out through injury, but there are greater problems elsewhere on the field. Centre-back Marc Planus has been training with the first team again, albeit with a huge bandage on his leg, while Anthony Modeste is liable to miss out after scoring two goals in four appearances.
Better news surrounds Wendel, who should return to the team after missing last weekend’s defeat.
Any number of changes could be made by Tigana such has been the abject nature of les Girondins’ start to the season.
Probable Starting XI: Carrasso; Chalme, Sane, Ciani, Tremoulinas; A. Diarra, Fernando; Ben Khalfallah, Plasil, Wendel; Maazou
Lyon
Slowly but surely, Claude Puel’s early Minnesota Vikings jersey
season injury headaches are starting to clear up. Cris returned to normal training on Thursday, indicating that he could possibly come into contention, while Aly Cissokho is nearing fitness too. Cesar Delgado is in the final stages of his rehabilitation following a muscular problem, while Michel Bastos and Lisandro Lopez have each played the last two games.
Only Ederson is now a long-term issue.
Changes may be made after the Schalke victory, though Puel won’t touch his squad too much after a rare win.
Probable Starting XI: Lloris; Reveillere, Lovren, Diakhate, Kolodziejczak; Toulalan, Pjanic; Briand, Gourcuff, Michel Bastos; Lisandro

Report: Marcello Lippi Linked With Roma As Blip Casts Shadow Over Claudio Ranieri

Dallas Cowboys jersey
Roma coach Claudio Ranieri's future at the club is under threat, and Marcello Lippi has been tipped to take over if he fails to tackle the shortfalls evident thus far.
A clash between captain Francesco Totti and Ranieri has caused nfl jerseys
directors to squeal at Trigoria following the 2-0 Champions loss at Bayern Munich.
And, despite reports of a truce between the two men, Tuttosport Colts jersey
claims an air of tension is still present in the capital.
President Rosella Sensi has become uncomfortable with Roma's poor start, including having conceded seven goals in their last two games.
Ranieri was up for a contract extension after last season's stellar campaign, but things have started to change. There is no longer any talk of the new deal coming soon.
If the hold-up continues and the coach seems reluctant to Cowboys jersey
put pen to paper, Lippi may show his hand.
The Turin-based paper have thrown his name in the hat after he left his post with Italy during the summer.

Ligue 1 Preview: Round 6

Dallas Cowboys jersey
After a fairly slow start to the season, in which they’ve recorded just one victory, Lorient will be aiming to defeat Caen on their artificial pitch on Saturday evening.
Christian Gourcuff’s side were poor as they drew 0-0 with Brest last Sunday and were somewhat undeserving of cheap nfl jerseys
the point they claimed. On the positive side of things for the coach, les Merlus defeated Lyon 2-0 in their last home game, while he should also have a full complement of first XI players to select from. Lamine Kone is continuing his rehabilitation from injury, while Olivier Monterrubio is carrying a knock too.
Caen have raised eyebrows early this term, picking up eight points, though they’ve not won since defeating Marseille and Lyon back-to-back on the opening weeks of the season. Injuries have posed problems for head coach Franck Dumas, though he can welcome back Gregory Leca back into his matchday squad for this encounter. Sambou Yatabare serves the second of a three game ban.
Saturday evening’s fixture list has thrown up some mouth-watering ties, though Toulouse’s visit to the Stade Louis II is arguably the pick of these.
Les Monegasques have started the season strongly but have drawn too many games to really be up at the summit. Indeed, les Rouge et Blanc were left frustrated as a late Adriano own goal prevented them from gathering another three points against Marseille last weekend in a match Monaco twice led in but were ultimately held 2-2. There have been no reports of fresh injury issues.
Toulouse boasted a perfect record in the top flight until last weekend’s hosting of Saint-Etienne, where they were defeated 1-0. Alain Casanova’s men struggled to get a foothold against les Verts and fully deserved their defeat. Le Tefece shouldn’t have too many injury issues, though Xavier Pentecote is a long-term problem.
Without playing especially well, Nancy have moved to pick up seven points this season and lie comfortably in the middle of the table approaching the weekend visit of Brest, a side who have not been adequately rewarded in points for the early season endeavours.
Pablo Correa’s side claimed a 2-1 success over Montpellier last weekend but made life hard for themselves by earning their fourth red card in just five fixtures when Joel Sami was sent-off early in the second half with his side two goals to the good. ASNL were forced to ride their luck at times in the remainder of the game, and will have to do without the suspended Sami this weekend. Youssouf Hadji is also banned, while Pascal Berenguer joins Paul Afo’o Efoulou on the sidelines. Mickael Chretien is doubtful.
Brest have only accrued five points to date this term, but they’ve outperformed their points total, enjoying long periods of dominance in games only to lack creative nous in the final third of the field. This was evident last weekend as they were held 0-0 against Lorient last weekend, despite dominating the closing stages.
Having fought relegation for the last two season, Saint-Etienne are on course for a far better campaign this time around, earning ten early season points to quickly shuffle Christophe Galtier’s side away from the foot of the table ahead of an awkward looking meeting against Montpellier.
Sainte moved to strengthen their defence in the summer and are reaping the benfits of a more stable back four. They rarely looked troubled against Toulouse last weekend and will be reinforced by the return of Gonzalo Bergessio and Loic Perrin for this encounter. Boubacar Sanogo is injured, but in the form of Dimitri Payet they boast Ligue 1’s top scorer with four goals.
A 2-1 home reverse by Nancy last weekend was Montpellier’s first loss of the season, and they’ll rue the fact that they couldn’t be a more proactive offensive force during the second half of that fixture, when their guests were reduced to ten men. That was the first time MHSC had even conceded this term, though they’ve only scored twice. Emir Spahic is set to miss this game.
Tipped for relegation at the start of the season, Sochaux have done superbly well to defy expectations in the early weeks of the campaign, winning seven points. Against an inspired Nice side, les Lionceaux will have their work cut out on Saturday.
Goalkeeper Teddy Richert remains the only major absentee in the ranks of the home side, who have gone unbeaten at home thus far.
Les Aiglons have been on superb form, meanwhile. Under Eric Roy, they’ve suddenly jumped into the position of being a side who look capable of making a push for Europe, having made an astute offensive signing in the form of Danijel Ljuboja. Drissa Diakite may well miss out, but les Aiglons should have all of Steelers jersey
their other big guns fit and ready to play.
Lens lost the Derby du Nord against Lille in controversial circumstances last weekend but will be forced to bounce back in another local affair when they meet Valenciennes on Saturday evening.
VA picked up an excellent draw against Lyon last weekend, levelling the match thanks to a thumping second half header from Gaetan Bong. Head coach Philippe Montanier welcomed back Carlos Sanchez to training this week, though he probably won’t be back in contention for a first team place until November. As many as seven Valenciennes players could be sidelined for this game, with Bobo Balde a new problem.
Les Sang et Or were highly critical of referee Tony Chapron after their 4-1 defeat against LOSC last weekend, during which they had two players dismissed around the half-time mark. Jean-Guy Wallemme’s side clung on well but capitulated late on, conceding three times in quick succession. Samba Sow is out injured, while Sebastien Routed and Issam Jemaa are both banned after being dismissed.
It’s been a bad week for both Arles and Marseille, and both will be keen for the three points on Saturday night to ease talk of crisis at their respective clubs.
ACA have lost all five of their Ligue 1 games to date, including last weekend’s encounter against PSG, in which they were whipped 4-0. Worse was to follow over the course of the week, which saw head coach Michel Estevan sacked after a long-running dispute with the club’s board. Lacking cohesion and direction, it will take a monumental effort for the Championnat debutants to pick up their first points against the champions.
Strangely, Arles pinching a draw against OM isn’t the most unlikely scenario given les Phoceens’ poor play of late. They were beaten 1-0 at home against Spartak Moscow on Wednesday evening to get their Champions League campaign off to the worst possible start, and Didier Deschamps’ men, who have won only once in the league this season, will be without Loic Remy due to injury once more. Additionally, Souleymane Diawara is a big doubt.
Both Lille and Auxerre slipped to European defeats in midweek, and after drawing an aggregate of eight Ligue 1 games between them this season, both are in need of the three points to boost their league challenge.
Much was expected of Rudi Garcia’s side prior to the season’s kick-off. Last term they had narrowly missed out on third, which Auxerre pinched from them on the final day of the season, and they finished top scorers in Ligue 1. Despite keeping the vast majority of the squad together, they’ve been unable to replicate such scoring form and lost 2-1 to Sporting CP at home. Aurelien Chedjou is doubtful, along with Franck Beria and Tulio de Melo.
Less was expected of AJA, whose target is simply to stay in Ligue 1 this term. The Burgundy club gave a good account of themselves during their match away in Milan, though ultimately lost 2-0. Alexandre Licata is the only absentee from Jean Fernandez’s side, who don’t have a great deal of depth to their team.
After a pre-international break stutter in which they lost three successive games, Antoine Kombouare’s PSG side are now back on track and looking to complete a hat-trick of victories when they play Rennes on Sunday.
Victory over Sevilla on Thursday evening with a largely fringe selection was a huge boost for les Parisiens, who snatched victory thanks to a goal from Nene, one of the few established first team players to be involved in the starting XI in Andalucia. And it was a thoroughly deserved success too, though not as routine as last Saturday’s 4-0 romp against Arles.
Rennes are in the midst of their best start to a Ligue 1 season for over Vikings jersey
four decades and are already being tipped as likely title condenders should the big guns continue to misfire on a regular basis. The Bretons had hoped to welcome back Rod Fanni into their side, though he aggravated his adductor problem in training on Wednesday and has been ruled out. Don’t expect many changes in their ranks from the 2-1 victory they achieved over Sochaux in their previous match.

Todd Heap doesn’t practice, R. Lewis, Boldin limited

Cowboys jersey
OWINGS MILLS, Md.—Baltimore Ravens tight end Todd Heap(notes) didn't practice today due to a strained shoulder.
Ravens coach John nfl throwback jerseys
Harbaugh had predicted Tuesday that Heap would practice.
The injury isn't regarded as serious and Heap is expected to be available for Sunday's game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
All-Pro middle linebacker Ray Lewis(notes) (foot) was limited as well as wide receiver Anquan Boldin(notes) (thigh), defensive tackle Terence Cody (knee) and linebacker Jarret Johnson(notes) (back).
The Ravens ruled out offensive tackle Jared Gaither(notes) Minnesota Vikings jersey
(thoracic disc injury) and wide receiver Donte' Stallworth(notes) (broken foot).
Inside linebacker Jameel McClain(notes) (knee) and wide receiver Marcus Smith (knee) participated fully.
Bengals defensive lineman Jonathan Fanene(notes) (hamstring) and linebacker Keith Rivers(notes) (foot) didn't practice.
Running back Cedric Benson(notes) (shoulder) was Pittsburgh Steelers jersey
limited.
Wide receiver Andre Caldwell(notes) (groin), cornerback Brandon Ghee(notes) (head) and running back Brian Leonard(notes) (foot) participated fully.

AccuScore: Texans big players; Cowboys, Jets drop

Cowboys jersey
The biggest shakeup in the AFC came from the AFC South. The Texans not only impressed everyone by beating the Colts, but showed their running game and defense are rapidly catching up with their passing game in the league rankings. They jumped 31 percentage points. The Titans were also impressive, but their win over the Raiders does not have the same impact as football jerseys
beating the projected division leader. The Colts are still expected to win this division with a 42-percent chance, but the Colts still were among the biggest drops (17.5 percent) this week. The Jaguars won, but only saw a 3.7 percentage point increase.
The loud Jets suffered a bad loss, not only because it was to a playoff competitor at home, but they also showed no offensive improvement. If anything, they declined without Thomas Jones(notes). The Jets suffered a 35-point percentage point drop; victories by division rivals Patriots and Dolphins, and wild-card competitors Texans, Titans, Ravens and Steelers, all took its toll on the Jets. The Dolphins jumped nearly 25 percentage points thanks to their win and the Jets’ loss. The Patriots also had a nice jump, up 16 percentage points thanks to their impressive offensive display.
The Ravens got a big win that improved their playoff chances 6.7 percentage points. They did not improve as much as you might expect because the Steelers also won a close game and improved 5.8 points. With both the Ravens and Steelers winning, the Bengals saw their chances plummet 38 points. Like the Jets, the Bengals suffered due to a loss and victories by division rivals and AFC South wild-card competitors. Cincinnati also has one of the toughest schedules in the league.
The Chargers have started slowly yet again, but AccuScore still strongly favors them. They saw their playoff chances drop 7.7 points, but they are still the 77-percent favorite to win the division. The Chiefs improved 6.7 points, and while their explosive young players Jamaal Charles(notes), Dexter McCluster(notes) and Javier Arenas(notes) delivered big plays, the offense was overall very weak and could not score in the second half. The Raiders stumbled out of the gate and saw their chances already dip nearly 14 points as there are too many strong wild-card competitors in the AFC. Denver dropped 4.2 points for the same reasons.
The Seahawks got a huge win over the 49ers and saw their playoff chances jump more than 25 percentage points. Their defense, one of the worst units last season, looked much improved, at least for one week. The Cardinals also got a win over the Rams and while the offense may average 7-10 points less without Kurt Warner(notes), their underrated defense can still keep them in competition for the division. The main reason why Seattle and Arizona saw big jumps in playoff probability was the weak performance of Indianapolis Colts jersey
San Francisco. Its offense was a flop and with trouble brewing early in S.F., the Niners’ playoff chances were cut in half.
The Cowboys’ loss to the Redskins cost Dallas dearly with a 17.6 percentage point drop. Road losses usually are not that damaging, but ones within the division hurt. Surprisingly, the Redskins did not see an improvement after their win. They weren’t impressive offensively and their ability to put up points this year, even with Donovan McNabb(notes), is questionable. The big winner in the division was the Giants who defeated the Panthers and benefited from losses suffered by the Eagles and Cowboys.
The Saints’ offense didn’t explode in Week 1, but their playoff chances rose 5.5 points because of their win against the Vikings and the Falcons’ loss to the Steelers. The Falcons are the Saints’ primary division rival. The Falcons’ offense was ineffective. Things will improve when they face weaker defenses, but they still do not look significantly improved from last year. Atlanta’s loss cost them nine percentage points. The Buccaneers improved 6.5 points with their win over the Browns and, more importantly, the struggles of the Panthers. Carolina hoped its turnover problems left with Jake Delhomme(notes) but with Matt Moore(notes) looking awful in Week 1 and only rookie Jimmy Clausen(notes) waiting in the wings, turnovers by the QB could do this team in again.
Green Bay and Minnesota will compete for the NFC North all season long and head-to-head matchups will likely determine the outcome. The Packers are currently 55-percent favorites at home vs. Minnesota in Week 7 but the Vikings are 66-percent favorites at home vs. the Dallas Cowboys jersey
Packers in Week 11 as Sidney Rice(notes) should be back by then. With the overall edge going to the Vikings, they are still the 50-percent favorite to win the division vs. 43 percent for Green Bay. Chicago and Detroit are not expected to make a serious playoff run with just a 6.8 percent combined chance of winning the division.

Bills once again counting on LB Ellison

Cowboys jersey
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP)—Linebacker Keith Ellison(notes) has heard it many times before how he’s too small to effectively play his position in the NFL.
So it didn’t bother him that the skeptics raised those concerns once again this offseason, when the Buffalo Bills announced they were switching to a 3-4 system, a scheme not particularly suited to someone with Ellison’s 6-foot, 220-pound frame.
“According to most people, I’m not the prototypical-sized linebacker for any defense,” Ellison said with a laugh Wednesday. “Football’s football. My job is just to do whatever they ask of nfl jerseys
me.”
It’s a no-nonsense approach that’s served Ellison well because—for the fourth time in his five seasons in Buffalo—he’s being asked to make the jump from backup to a starting job.
Ellison will start alongside fellow middle linebacker Andra Davis(notes) on Sunday, when the Bills play at Green Bay. He’ll be in the lineup after injuries have played havoc at the position.
Starter Paul Posluszny(notes) will miss about three weeks after spraining his right knee in a 15-10 season-opening loss to Miami on Sunday. And that came two days after veteran Kawika Mitchell(notes) was placed on season-ending injured reserve because of a foot injury.
Enter, Ellison, the team’s “Mr. Reliable,” a 2006 sixth-round draft pick who has proven to be a key injury-replacement in having started 38 games for the Bills—and at least seven in each of his four previous seasons.
He started as rookie in place of Takeo Spikes(notes). In 2008, he took over after Angelo Crowell(notes) was hurt. And then came last year, when he had at least one start at all three linebacker positions after a string of injuries struck the entire Bills defense.
“This is old hat for me,” Ellison said with a shrug. “I feel totally prepared. I’ve been the backup, and there’s always somebody going down. So I’ve always been ready to step in.”
This stint as a starter might represent Ellison’s biggest challenge. He’ll be playing in the middle of a scheme where, unlike the 4-3 system, the linebacker is asked to directly take on linemen in defending against the run.
Ellison is aware of that, and plans to rely on his quickness to shed blocks to get to the ball carrier.
He proved capable against the Minnesota Vikings jersey
Dolphins on Sunday. Taking over after Posluszny was hurt on the opening play of the third quarter, Ellison finished with six tackles on a defense that gave up only 3 points and six first downs on Miami’s seven second-half possessions.
The Packers’ Aaron Rodgers(notes)-led offense presents a more formidable test, though Green Bay will be without starting running back Ryan Grant(notes), who sustained a season-ending ankle injury last weekend.
On the bright side for Buffalo, outside linebacker Reggie Torbor(notes) practiced Wednesday and is expected to start against the Packers after missing last weekend’s game with a chest injury. Veteran linebacker Akin Ayodele(notes), signed last week to replace Mitchell, is also expected to fill in for Ellison in certain situations.
Coach Chan Gailey emphasized that Ellison will be getting most of the playing time, because he’s more accustomed to the system and proved able to play the position this offseason.
“He’s one of those guys who has instincts, he’s around the ball a lot,” Gailey said. “He’s doing a good job. The only thing he doesn’t have is size. Everything else he’s got.”
Looking back, Ellison wasn’t any more worried this year than in the past about making the Bills roster, even though he missed portions of spring minicamps and training camps due to a nagging injury.
“Antsy? Not too much because you know it’s out of your control,” Ellison said. “It’s nothing I could control, if they wanted to keep me or not. I thought I put my best effort forward.”
NOTES: Posluszny referred to his injury as a “slight sprain,” and he hopes to be back within a few weeks. He said he was hurt when his teammates landed on him as they gang-tackled running back Ronnie Brown(notes) along the sideline. … C Geoff Hangartner(notes) was held out of Dallas Cowboys jersey
practice as a precaution after he hurt his left ankle against the Dolphins. Gailey said the player will be evaluated to determine whether he can practice Thursday. … RB Fred Jackson(notes) said his injured left hand has healed enough where he doesn’t intend to wear a protective pad as he did Sunday.

Indianapolis Colts jersey

The Reds are still finding their feet under Roy Hodgson and following Sunday's goalless draw at Birmingham, currently find themselves in the wrong half of the Premier League table.
Star man Fernando Torres is coming under scrutiny for his football jerseys
lacklustre displays but Jovanovic accepts others must make a bigger contribution too.
The 29-year-old Serbian international is yet to score since his summer move from Standard Liege. But he insists it is a situation he does not expect to continue for much longer.
"I was happy with how I played against Birmingham but I know I can do better,'' the striker told the Liverpool Echo. "I am disciplined and trying to build an understanding with the other players.
"I am not in the best form and I can play better than I have shown so far. But I know I can score goals and make assists for this Dallas Cowboys jersey
team. I am sure I can.''
Hodgson has already pleaded for patience as he tries to galvanise a side that had slipped to seventh by the end of Rafael Benitez's final season in charge.
Jovanovic shares the sentiments and ahead of Thursday's Europa League showdown with Steaua Bucharest, he is convinced life will soon start getting better for the Anfield giants.
"It is going to take time because there are a lot of Pittsburgh Steelers jersey
new players,'' he said. "But if we keep getting the ball to Stevie (Gerrard), we will be much better.
"I have no doubts that we will climb the table. The Premier League is tough but we are Liverpool. That is what matters.''

Neville: No end in sight for Giggs or Scholes

Indianapolis Colts jersey

As Neville waits to learn whether the one appearance he needs to reach 600 for United will come in the Champions League clash with Rangers on Tuesday, the question of how long his long-time team-mates can go on for has cropped up again.
Sir Alex Ferguson yesterday admitted United would cheap nfl jerseys
almost certainly need to "stretch'' themselves in the transfer market when the time comes for Giggs and company to call it a day.
Ferguson has not given up hope of getting another two years from those ageing legs, although given his own injury problems, Neville's career seems likely to come to a close first.
Towards the end of last season, Neville Minnesota Vikings jersey
felt he was three games away from retirement, only for Ferguson to hand the full-back a new contract.
That same decision had already been made for Giggs and Scholes and after starting the current campaign in impressive fashion, Neville feels the pair still have plenty of service to give.
"I don't see why Ryan and Paul cannot continue what they are doing given how well they are playing at present,'' Neville said. "Ryan is 37 in November and I can't see any difference. It is incredible really.
"I certainly don't see any players better than them. Pittsburgh Steelers jersey
They manage themselves brilliantly, on and off the pitch. The manager is looking at 25 to 30 games a season off them now, not 55 so they could play on for another few years.''

Jose Mourinho hails "easy" victory over Osasuna

Steelers jersey

Jose Mourinho reflected an an "easy'' night's work for his side as Real Madrid downed Osasuna 1-0 to give the Portuguese coach his first victory in charge of the Spanish giants.

Mourinho knows there is still room cheap nfl jerseys
for improvement after seeing his slow-starting side fail to impress the home fans during a disappointing first half at the Bernabeu.
Mourinho, whose side took the spoils thanks to a solitary Ricardo Carvalho goal just after half-time, said following after the match: "It didn't seem a difficult game to me, it was easy to win. We haven't had any problems at the back nor have we seen (Iker) Casillas in any difficult situations.
"We didn't play a great game, although we were better in the second half. But I'm building a team and it's important to have gone two games without conceding a goal and without Casillas needing to make any saves.
"We've controlled the game easily, without any problems. That only thing we've lacked is some calm and clarity, which will come with time and work. I'm sure we would have been calmer if we had gone 2-0 up.
"I'm going away happy with the three points and with the total control of the game. I was on the bench without any type of pressure or fear.''
Madrid, who drew 0-0 with Real Mallorca in their opening game of Indianapolis Colts jersey
the season, struggled to create much in the opening period against a tough-tackling Osasuna side, with visiting goalkeeper Ricardo Lopez needing to make only one save, off Cristiano Ronaldo.
Gonzalo Higuain, who had a number of opportunities in the second half as Madrid improved, also shot into the side-netting from a tight angle just before the break after skipping past Ricardo.
Aside from those openings though Madrid did not impress in the first 45 minutes and the Bernabeu fans, seeing their new-look team up close in competition for the first time, whistled their discontent as the players left the pitch.
When asked about the reaction of the fans at half-time, Mourinho said: "They pay me, the fans can whistle when they want to. I will continue doing my job and one day try to give total satisfaction to the fans. I will never have a negative word about the fans of Real Madrid. I prefer the support of Pittsburgh Steelers jersey
the fans in difficult moments, but I will never criticise.''
He added: "I understand that the fans want more, I also want more and the players want more.''
